Solidarity Fund for Social Entrepreneurs – without loan agreement

When financing is delayed, it can threaten the very existence of a social entrepreneur. Ashoka Germany wanted to support its fellows unbureauratically in such moments. With funds that flow back and benefit others again. A classic revolving fund. But: legally, this was previously hardly feasible without complex loan solutions.

The Challenge

Ashoka wanted to create a flexible pool of funds that the team could distribute to Fellows at short notice, which would be replenished through return donations. This sounds simple, but it wasn't:

  • A classic loan requires contracts, interest rates, repayment terms – a legal effort that nobody wanted

  • Passing donation funds directly to individuals is legally tricky under non-profit law

  • Without a structured solution, it remained a good intention without implementation

The Solution

Ashoka supporters pay into a bcause Foundation. The Ashoka team distributes the funds from there to any non-profit recipients, i.e. to the Fellows' organizations, not to private individuals. These organizations can donate the funds back as soon as their funding is secured. The pool replenishes itself for the next Fellow who needs it.

  • No loan agreement, no interest discussion, no repayment deadlines

  • No transaction fees, 100% of the funds arrive and flow back

  • Full transparency for everyone involved through shared access to the Foundation

The Result

A functioning revolving fund. Without lawyers, without effort, without friction losses. Ashoka can support Fellows in critical moments and operate the model sustainably because the funds flow back.
