Founders Pledge

International pledges, tax deductible in Germany

Founders Pledge is a global community of entrepreneurs and business angels who commit to donating a portion of their wealth to charity in the event of an exit. The recommended organizations are often international and therefore not directly tax-deductible for German members. A structural problem that dampens many good intentions.

The Challenge

Andreas Haug has fulfilled his pledge – and knows exactly where the money should go: to organizations recommended by the Founders Pledge team with a proven global impact. However, many of these organizations are based abroad. A direct donation is not tax-deductible in Germany.

The alternative – donating only to German organizations – contradicts the core of the pledge: evidence-based, global, impact-oriented.

The Solution

Through bcause, German Founders Pledge members donate to international organizations – and receive a donation receipt that is recognized by the German tax office. bcause acts as a tax-recognized fiduciary foundation: the funds are forwarded, the receipt is German, the impact is global.

  • Give worldwide, treated for tax purposes just like a domestic donation

  • No compromises in the selection of organizations

  • Automatic donation receipt – no manual effort

The Result

Fulfilling the pledge and giving in a tax-optimized way: no longer a contradiction. German Founders Pledge members can fully live up to their commitments – without compromising on impact and without any hassle with the tax office.
