Giving Basics
A donation receipt (also: donation certificate) is an official document confirming that a donation has been made to an organization recognized as non-profit. It is a prerequisite for tax deductibility of the donation (§ 10b EStG).
How do I get a donation receipt?
Non-profit organizations are required to issue donation receipts upon request or automatically – usually via email as a PDF or by post. For online donations, the receipt is often delivered immediately after the transaction or sent collectively at the beginning of the year.
Lost donation receipt – what to do?
Simply ask the organization: As a rule, donation receipts can be reissued – either for individual donations or as an annual overview. It is important to provide donor details (name, date, amount).
I donate to many organizations – how can I simplify this?
Digital donation platforms like bcause bundle all donations in a central foundation account. You will receive your donation receipts collectively at the beginning of the year, regardless of how many organizations you have supported – ideal for an overview and your tax return.
Example:
A PDF receipt for an online donation at bcause containing the name, amount, date, recipient organization, and the note "The contribution is tax-privileged within the meaning of § 10b EStG".
