Nutrition: A topic that can divide and unite us - these organizations are helping

The FOFoundation list for the topic of nutrition - a personal selection of donor organizations and digital foundations

What divides us can also connect us

When I butter a sandwich for the soup kitchen at Berlin's Zoo Station in the morning and discuss nutrition with a star chef in Kampen in the evening, it becomes clear to me: food is not a private matter. It determines whether people fall ill or get healthy, whether forests disappear, whether animals suffer - and whether we as a society can even sit down at the same table anymore.

That is why nutrition is now a main focus of my FO Foundation. And I invite you to join in. For example, by supporting these six organizations that have recently impressed me – through their impact, their courage, and their attitude.

5 organizations and a foundation that make a difference

💡 Acker – Learning with your hands

I met Christoph Schmitz in 2016, when Acker (then still Ackerdemia) was just starting out. Today, over 400,000 children have learned how tomatoes grow. Not from a book, but from the soil.

→ Support here means: education, soil, awareness.

💡 Haferkater – Porridge with principles

Haferkater is my favorite snack bar at German train stations. Healthy. Warm. Affordable. The founders think entrepreneurially and ethically – with steward-ownership, crowd investing, and a clear attitude.

→ I am even invested through my bcause Foundation. Every porridge pays dividends – which I can donate again.

💡 Tafel Deutschland – Unfortunately necessary. Thankfully there.

No one wants food banks to have to exist. And yet, without them, things would be much worse for millions of people. In the station missions, too, their deliveries are often the only fresh food available.

→ If you want to help without thinking twice: Here. Now.

💡 The Humane League – Eating without suffering

I am a vegetarian. Out of conviction. But also out of reason: less livestock farming means fewer emissions, fewer antibiotics, less destruction. The Humane League and the organizations of the Wild and Free Animal Fund are fighting for exactly that.

→ A diet that does not kill is possible. And necessary.

💡 Kreuzberger Himmel – Integration that tastes good

The Kreuzberger Himmel restaurant is a project of Be an Angel e. V. It shows how hospitality is not just a word. Refugees cook there – and become part of a society that otherwise only sees them as a problem.

→ When integration succeeds, it happens here: between kitchen and table.

🤝 Johannes King Stiftung – The chef who gives back

Two Michelin stars, his own restaurant on Sylt – and then? Johannes King begins to give back. With his own digital foundation, he raises funds to combat hunger and promote good nutrition.

→ An example of what I call Impact Influencing: wealth, trust, and impact thought of together.

What you can do now

I believe: The way we eat says more about us than any tax return.

And: Anyone who wants to change something can start with food.

bcause makes it easy to support what feeds us all – and makes our world a little better. Whether directly or through your own foundation, whether once or regularly, whether publicly or discreetly.

👉 I look forward to your additions, as always by email or directly on LinkedIn. Or as a comment with a donation to or via my FOFoundation on bcause.

And perhaps we will see each other soon – at the breakfast table or at the station.

Yours,

Felix

In September, the FOFoundation dedicated itself to the topic of “Development work - donating and investing on equal terms”.

A recent guest contribution from joyoountu explores the question of how decision-making power can be shifted to where global crises have the greatest impact:
